Lost & Found: Reclaiming Your Spiritual Authority
Part 11: Ruling through Prayer - John 14:7-15

In Dr. Evans’ series, Reclaiming Your Spiritual Authority, we learned that God has given mankind legal authority to rule on earth. This week’s message taught us that we successfully rule on earth only by understanding God’s divine plan for our lives. Believers fully understand God’s plan by communicating with God through prayer. God desires that every believer understand the following essential principles about prayer.

Prayer invites God’s presence into our daily lives. God completes His work on earth primarily through His people.  Although God desires to work in the lives of His people, He requires believers to express desire for His presence and power through prayer. Prayer invites God to intervene in our daily circumstances. Prayer also communicates to God our desire to unite with Him in the fulfillment of His eternal plans.

Prayer leads us to intimacy with Christ. God desires to have an intimate relationship with every believer. The believer can abide with God by consistently communicating with Him. Successful communication encompasses God talking to the believer through His Word and the believer talking to God. As we spend quality time with God, a closer relationship is established and our priorities increasingly reflect the priorities God has established for us.

As Christians, we have the privilege to execute God’s plan on earth. Prayer is the believers’ link to understanding God’s heavenly plan. Prayer also draws the believer to intimacy with Jesus Christ. God is waiting for you to invite Him through prayer to do the supernatural in your life today!

  1. Use a journal to write what you are talking to God about and what He is saying to you.
  2. Begin the practice of praying very specific prayers about issues in your life and the lives of your family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors.
  3. Take a few moments to do a spiritual checkup on yourself. Ask yourself, “Do I have an intimate relationship with Christ right now in my life?” If the answer is “no”, ask yourself “why”. Use your journal to record your answer. Begin praying for God to draw you closer.
